Two seriously injured in hit-and-run in downtown Clare
A late evening motorcycle ride through Clare last Thursday, July 18, turned into a tragic crash when they were hit by a speeding driver on McEwan Street. Clare Police Chief David Saad said in a press release, “A white Chevrolet SUV, traveling south at a high rate of speed on McEwan” crashed into an orange Harley Davidson motorcycle stopped for a red light at the intersection of Fifth Street.
Clare Superintendent Walter on administrative leave
Following a second closed session at the end of the regular board meeting July 15, Clare Board of Education President Loren Cole released a statement, citing an “employment issue” as the reason for an ongoing investigation using a third party. Superintendent Jim Walter II was placed on administrative leave at the same time (a month ago) but the investigation was not given as the reason for Walter’s being placed on the leave.

Jury finds Ketner guilty of meth charges
William August Ketner, of Harrison, was charged with three counts of Delivery of Methamphetamine, 2nd or subsequent offense; one count of Delivery of (Cocaine, Heroin, or another narcotic) under 50 grams, 2nd or subsequent offense; and one count of Maintaining a Drug house. The charges were the result of an investigation conducted by MINT narcotics enforcement team in June and July of 2022.

Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan Opens New Home
The Doud House, part of Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan, opened on 9th Street with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Bay City. Located on the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission campus, it offers support to teens in need. Last school year, 519 youth in Bay County experienced homelessness. They offer support such as counseling, education assistance, job training, and life skills workshops for teens in need.
