BELOIT—The Beloit Sky Carp took advantage of a prime opportunity to make a dent in the Midwest League West standings with a 4-2 series win over the first-place Quad Cities River Bandits this past week at ABC Supply Stadium.

And now, the third-place Sky Carp have the perfect chance to make a run to the top as they stay in Beloit for a six-game homestand against the last-place Peoria Chiefs.

With the series set to kick off on Tuesday, fans have the opportunity to watch several players on the rise while enjoying a slew of promotions at the ballpark.

    • THE STANDINGS: The River Bandits sit in a tie for first with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers as both squads sit at 17-10. The Sky Carp and the Cedar Rapids Kernels are next in third at 15-11 while the South Bend Cubs are fifth at 10-17 and the Chiefs, who have lost five-straight games, are last at 8-19.

    • WHO’S HOT: Jake Thompson has continued his dominance since arriving in Beloit from the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos on April 21. He is hitting .378 in 45 at-bats with three doubles, a homer, five runs scored and seven RBI. The DH’s batting average is .373 overall this season, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him back in Florida sometime in the near future.

Chase Luttrell had a hot week against the River Bandits, who came into last week’s series as the top pitching staff in the MWL. In six games the outfielder hit .389 and cracked two home runs. He added three doubles, scored four runs and stole a base. He is hitting .258 in 66 at-bats this season with four homers and nine RBI.

On the pitching side, Jacob Miller continues to be the team’s most reliable starter. He is sporting a 2.60 ERA in three starts this season. The righty is 1-2 and has issued just six walks to 18 strikeouts. Against Quad Cities, he allowed just one earned run and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings.

Emmett Olson made his Sky Carp debut on Wednesday after being promoted and allowed just two hits and two walks in 5 2-3 scoreless innings.

In the bullpen, Tyler Eckberg (2 1-3 inning), Yeuris Jimenez (1 2-3) and Edgar Sanchez (2) all didn’t allow a hit in their appearances this past series. Ignacio Feliz threw 3 1-3 innings of relief and didn’t allow a run while walking two and striking out seven in his games against the River Bandits.

Starter Alex Williams leads Beloit with 26 strikeouts while Ike Buxton has 24.

    • FOR THE FANS: The series kicks off on Tuesday at ABC Supply Stadium as gates open at 5 p.m. and first-pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

Wednesday is education day as several schools from around the area will bring in students for a special 11:10 a.m. start. It is also Waggin’ One Price Wednesdays, where fans can purchase a package that includes a game ticket, a soda and a hot dog for $18.

Next up is thirsty Thursday, where fans can purchase 12-ounce drafts of Busch Light for just $2 or 16-ounce cans for $4. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.

Friday is teacher appreciation day with discounted tickets available for the 6:35 p.m start. Saturday’s game begins at 1:05 p.m. and the homestand finishes Sunday with Family Fun Day as kids 12 and under get to run the bases and families can play catch in the outfield. Mother’s Day will also be celebrated with a variety of in-game promotions.

Single-game tickets, mini plans, group outings, and season tickets for the 2024 season are available now at Skycarp.com and the ABC Supply Stadium box office.
