DE PERE, Wis. — With just two weeks to go until the Midwest Conference Championships, the Beloit College track and field team looks to be hitting its stride.

The Buccaneers’ men finished second at the Green Knight Invitational while the women placed fourth at the meet hosted by St. Norbert College on Saturday.

UW-Stevens Point took first on the men’s side with 199 points with the Bucs scoring 131 and the hosting Knights next at 90. Concordia University placed first on the women’s side by racking up 179 points with the Pointers closely behind with 175. Beloit scored 73 total points.

Alexandre Atou finished first in the 400 for the Bucs after finishing in 50.79 seconds. Josh Yearby also earned a victory on the track as he won the 200, and his time of 21.68 moves him into the top three in the MWC. He was also second in the 100 (10.81), and his finish also put him in the top three in the conference for that event.

Daniel DeGeorge and Izzy Zewdie ended 5-6 in the 200 with times of 22.93 and 22.94, respectively. The duo finished 6-7 in the 100 (11.58, 11.63).

The men’s 4x400 “A” relay won the event with a time of 3:28.58 while the 4x100 “A” relay was second (44.54).

Nate Otis finished third in the 110 hurdles (16.11) and second in the 400 hurdles (55.94), where teammate Quintin Lottig was fourth (1:00.09).

In the field events, Caden Anderson won the javelin with a throw of 47.14 meters. Vansh Bhandari placed second in the triple jump (11.84) with Diontia Charles right behind him in third (11.61). Charles also finished fifth in the high jump (1.85) while Kevon Mills ended fourth in the long jump (6.74) and sixth in the high jump (1.85).

Beloit Memorial graduate Josh Martinez Marte was sixth in the shot put (12.93).

The Bucs women’s side earned two event wins with Candis Damste continuing her stellar season with another first-place finish in the 100 (12.31) and the 4x400 relay grabbing first with a time of 4:12.18.

Damste finished second in the 200, and her time of 25.10 seconds is the fastest in the MWC this season. Jaeonie Echols was sixth in the 100 (13.01) and 10th in the 200 (26.72), where Alayna Furch was ninth (26.46).

Hannah Welte had a pair of top-five finishes in the hurdles as she ended third in the 400 (1:10.89) and fourth in the 100 (17.29).

Welte was also fifth in the long jump (5.19) while fellow Clinton graduate Liz Kalk was fourth in the high jump (1.50). Naomi Murphy finished fifth in the high jump (1.40).

Naomee Casey’s height of 3.21 was good enough for both fifth in the pole vault and the third best distance in the MWC.

The Bucs are back in action on Friday in the Battle of the Bluffs hosted at the University of Dubuque.
