Clearwater's Coast Guard pushes for safe boating ahead of Memorial Day weekend
CLEARWATER, Fla. - We’re just a few days away from Memorial Day weekend and with summer just around the corner, thousands of boaters will soon be taken to the water. It’s also national safe boating week and in Clearwater on Sunday the US Coast Guard auxiliary taught safety classes.

CLEARWATER — If you grew up watching TV sports in the 1980s or ’90, chances are good pro bowling was on the tube at some point each week. During the sport’s heyday, pros like Parker Bohn III, Pete Weber, Johnny Petraglia and Walter Ray Williams Jr. regularly appeared on television sets across the country, and many of PBA stars enjoyed crossover success, appearing in movies and TV shows, video games and countless advertisements.
Hit-and-run suspect arrested in Pinellas Park
PINELLAS PARK — Police arrested a St. Petersburg man May 13 in connection with a hit-and-run crash four days earlier that left a pedestrian hospitalized. Pinellas Park police were called to the 9600 block of 66th Street North here about 4 a.m. May 9, where they found a man in the roadway who was struck by a vehicle that left the scene. The victim, Dominick Venose, 46, of Clearwater, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Bay Area nonprofit receives $175,000 grant to help domestic abuse survivors with housing
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A nonprofit dedicated to helping domestic violence survivors and standing up to silence just got more help with its mission. Community Action Stops Abuse of Pinellas County, or CASA, recently received a $175,000 grant from TD Bank. The money will be used to safely rehouse people into their own apartments or homes away from their abusers, Lariana Forsythe, CEO of CASA Pinellas, said.

Brandon Christian Harwood Pagels, 30, was traveling westbound in the 1900 block of 1st Avenue North around 2 a.m. "at a high rate of speed" when he lost control of his motorcycle.
Firefighter Injured, Family Displaced in Pasco County House Fire
HOLIDAY, FLa.- Two people were injured in a house fire Monday morning in Holiday. One was a Pasco County Firefighter. Firefighters arrived on scene of a working structure fire on Perkin Drive in Holiday around 5AM Monday. According to officials, one firefighter sustained injuries during the blaze and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.
Guns are being stolen from cars at higher rates nationwide. What about in Tampa Bay?
A recent report found that the rate of gun thefts from vehicles is triple what it was a decade ago. The report from gun safety group Everytown came just weeks after a 14-year-old boy in St. Petersburg accidentally shot and killed his 11-year-old brother. Police say the teen found the gun in an alley after it was stolen from a vehicle.
Former Catholic church employee accused of stealing $775K
TAMPA, Fla. — The Diocese of St. Petersburg said Monday that Christ the King Catholic Church was the victim of a complex financial crime. A church and Diocese of St. Petersburg spokesperson said a former employee stole $775,000 from its parish operating account over the last five months. 10 Tampa Bay is not naming the person in question because charges have not yet been filed.
