BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (WWLP) – Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating a series of incidents involving wayward bullets striking homes on Mountain View Drive in Belchertown over the past year.

Two Belchertown homes struck by bullets

The most recent occurrence transpired on March 29, when a stray bullet shattered a sliding glass door at a residence on Mountain View Drive. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Similarly, on June 27, 2023, another bullet struck and shattered the glass door of a nearby house on the same street. Again, no injuries occurred.

Belchertown Police, along with the Massachusetts State Police and the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, are jointly conducting the investigation into these concerning incidents.

First Assistant District Attorney Steven E. Gagne emphasized the importance of identifying the source of these stray bullets to prevent future occurrences. “Figuring out where these stray bullets are coming from is obviously the first step toward preventing it from happening again,” said Gagne. “We are doing everything in our power to restore a sense of safety and security for the residents of Mountain View Drive.”

Mountain View Drive, located along the Belchertown/Granby town line and approximately one mile east of the Granby Bow and Gun Club, has been the focal point of these unsettling events. While specific details of the ongoing investigation cannot be disclosed, authorities have obtained the names of individuals present at the club on March 29 and are conducting interviews.

Gagne clarified that the law enforcement investigation is distinct from other potential legal actions. “The law enforcement investigation is limited to determining where these projectiles are coming from and whether any crimes were committed,” said Gagne. “We don’t have the authority to change zoning bylaws, issue injunctions, or pursue other civil options.”

Individuals with information regarding these incidents are urged to contact Sergeant Robert Mann of the Belchertown Police Department at (413) 323-6685 ext. 279.
