West Point hosts change of command ceremony
WEST POINT- Brigadier Gen. R.J. Garcia assumed command as the 81st Commandant of Cadets at the U.S. Military Academy today during a change of command ceremony. Garcia, who graduated from West Point in 1996, holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Military Academy, a Master of Science degree from Kansas State University, and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College.
Benches find new home in Poughkeepsie
POUGHKEEPSIE – The benches that only lasted a few days on Main Street last summer before being removed by order of then-Mayor Marc Nelson have been pulled from storage and are being used by the city. Poughkeepsie Parks and Recreation Director Brian Laffin, following a conversation with Councilman Evan Menist, has placed the benches at Hulme Park at the corner of Church and Market Streets.
Cold Spring parking fees to be reduced
COLD SPRING – Main Street in Cold Spring on Father’s Day resembled a busy metropolis not a sleepy little village along the Hudson. Pedestrians filled stores and waited in long lines to use public restrooms at the foot of Main Street while motorists circled the busy Route 301 thoroughfare seeking parking, many not realizing that meter employees were on the prowl ready to write a $75 ticket for illegal parking.
