Raleigh County man pleads guilty to fentanyl crime

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — A Beckley man pleaded guilty to a drug crime that involved fentanyl.

39-year-old Anthony Darnell Deberry, of Beckley, pleaded guilty to distribution of fentanyl.

Man charged after shooting in Raleigh County

According to statements made in court, Deberry sold a controlled substance with fentanyl to a confidential informant on May 3, 2023 at his home in Beckley. He acknowledged his involvement in the sale, and also revealed that he sold fentanyl to the confidential informant in Raleigh County four other times.

A search warrant was carried out by law enforcement officers at Deberry’s house on July 5, 2023. The officers discovered two handguns, ammunition, $2,000, and around 76.5 grams of fentanyl. Deberry revealed that he planned to distribute the fentanyl that the officers found.

Beckley man pleads guilty to fentanyl crime

Deberry’s sentencing is scheduled for August 2, 2024, and he faces up to 20 years in prison, a minimum of three years of parole, and a $1 million fine.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Will Thompson, who praised the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit for their work on the investigation. Officers from the Beckley Police Department, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, and the West Virginia State Police make up the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit.
