Bolted carport lands in neighbor's yard after storm sweeps through Western PA
VANPORT, Pa. — The Vanport community came together to clear roadways and pick up the pieces after a strong storm ripped through Saturday afternoon. "We need a ton of hands on deck, and everyone, like, came together as a community. As I said, it just made my heart so full," said Dylana DiFrango.

In brief: Pedestrian safety on Beaver Street, summer reading and more in Sewickley area
Sewickley officials are working with Gateway Engineers to address pedestrian safety issues along Beaver Street. Council received reports of people being stuck by vehicles while in crosswalks at various intersections, including one of a woman who was struck in September and is still recovering. Council president Cynthia Mullins said they have “some good ideas and are getting good guidance” on how to address these issues. However, actual plans on how to improve the intersections have not yet been released.

The Daffodil and Hosta Society of Western Pennsylvania will hold its 30th annual Hosta Show on June 1 at Soergel Orchards Farm Market, 2573 Brandt School Road, Franklin Park. Entries for the juried show of cut leaf and potted hostas/arrangements will be accepted from 8 to 10 a.m. the day of the show. The judges are accredited by the American Hosta Society, and ribbons are awarded to the exhibits that meet specific criteria. Once the judges award the prizes the exhibit is open to the general public to enjoy.
