Gov. DeWine announces $32 million for Jackson County
COLUMBUS — Jackson and Meigs counties will receive part of a total of more than $73 million in state support for the construction of three new jails in Ohio according to a press release from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Funding for new jails in Adams, Jackson, and Wyandot counties will be awarded through the Ohio Jail Safety and Security Program, which was launched by Governor Mike DeWine in 2021 to help local communities with functionally obsolete and structurally failing jails. ...

The Pike County News Watchman would like to honor and recognize our top Pike County students for their commitment and dedication to academic excellence. We like to further congratulate all Class of 2024 graduates and wish them a fun filled, safe summer and nothing but the best in their future endeavors. From Waverly, Ayla Peden was named Valedictorian and Abby Junk was Salutatorian. At Piketon, there was an eight-way tie for first in the class. Those students included Brynna Spencer, Whitney Dean, Kade Thompson, Ashton Cormany, Kyla Penn, Malik Diack, Sadie Bear and Brooklynn Hart. For Western, Roxanne Milar was the Valedictorian and Alexis Tilley was the Salutatorian. At Eastern, the Valedictorian was Emma Hesson and the Salutatorian was Lacey Bevins. The top Eastern students from the Pike County Career Technology Center were Ayden Keeton and Isabella Stevens.
Piketon Council gets update on plants, fills PD positions
PIKETON — Piketon Village Council met in regular session on Monday, May 20 and Piketon Mayor Billy Spencer asked Kent Bryan from CT Consultants for an update on the village’s new water treatment and wastewater treatment facilities. “Tomorrow they’re going to do what is the last major pour in the water treatment plant,” Bryan said. “It (the water treatment plant) has an embedded heating system in the floor that I think will be a lot more efficient in the long term.” ...
