Weather: Patchy frost possible, and a dry week ahead

For optimal leaf peeping conditions, one needs fairly dry weather, warm days and cool nights without a hard frost. The week ahead will be pretty close to that optimal setup, with a few showers ahead of a cold front today, and seasonable temps and dry conditions for most of the week ahead.

Frost Advisory in effect in PA

The National Weather Service in State College, PA has issued the following alert: ⚠️Frost Advisory: Temperatures as low as 35 degrees will result in frost formation. 📍WHERE: Tioga County in PA ⏰WHEN: 1 AM until 9 AM Tuesday IMPACTS…Frost could harm or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation. Prepare for dense fog in Southern Tier Sunday morning

A report was issued from the National Weather Service on Sunday at 5:13 a.m. for dense fog until 8 a.m. for Steuben, Chemung, Tioga and Broome counties. "Areas of dense fog has developed across the area this morning with visibility down to a quarter mile in some locations. This is particularly the case along the I86 corridor. Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. If driving and you encounter dense fog, slow down, use your low-beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you. The fog is expected to dissipate by around 9 a.m.," says the weather service.

A few rain showers traverse the Twin Tiers this morning, but the afternoon looks much calmer and more dry. Temperatures soar back to the mid 70s as conditions remain much more like late Summer as opposed to early October. Both out of season warmth and rain follow into Friday, though temperatures sink just below 70 thanks to a cold front.
