Iowa DOT cancels second ramp closure at Jordan Creek Parkway

(This story has been updated to add new information.) A planned interstate ramp closure at Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines has been canceled. The Iowa Department of Transportation originally planned to close the southbound Jordan Creek Parkway to westbound Interstate 80 on-ramp starting on Oct. 20. A news release on Oct. 19 said the closure had been canceled. It did not offer an explanation or say if the closure would be rescheduled. Gas prices in Iowa have risen faster in 2026 compared to the U.S. average since the Iran War started. Even though gas prices in Iowa are lower than those in other states, that number shouldn't be taken at face value. Looking at the rate at which Iowa's gas prices have increased, Iowa is one of the hardest-hit states when it comes to how fast prices have risen, according to Brown University's Climate Solutions Lab. The typical household in Iowa has paid an extra $573.66 to fuel up in 2026. Here's what the numbers say. How do Iowa's gas prices compare to other states? Iowans have paid an extra $815.8 million since Feb. 28, 2026, the day the Iran War started, per Brown University. When the war started, gas prices in Iowa were at $2.64. Expect significant delays driving on interstates 80 and 35 in the Des Moines metro this weekend. The Iowa Department of Transportation is patching Saylor Creek Bridge, affecting one of the area's busiest corridors. Here's what to know. When is Iowa DOT closing westbound I-80/southbound I-35? Work will begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, and all lanes and ramps involved will be closed throughout the entire weekend. The interstate is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, weather permitting. What lanes and ramps are affected by the weekend closure? Westbound I-35/80 will be reduced to one open lane. The other two lanes are closed for crews to complete repairs safely and efficiently. Lanes will be closed between the westbound exit ramp to Second Avenue (exit 135) and extend a half-mile west of Second Avenue.
