Schools in Monmouth and Ocean counties are calling police more often than they did prior to the pandemic, according to data from the New Jersey Department of Education. Across both counties, police calls to schools increased 25% between the 2018-19 and 2022-23 school years, according to New Jersey's School Performance Report data.

Florence Will Start Paying Residents to Bike Rather Than Drive; Should Lakewood Do the Same?
Residents in Florence, Italy, will soon be paid to ride their bikes instead of driving. The city launched this initiative to mark World Bicycle Day on June 3. New Memorial Honors Local Fallen Police Officers
BRICK – A statue of a police officer saluting has found its home at the Brick Township Police headquarters, representing the lives of officers who died in the line of duty. During a recent ceremony, the Fallen Officer Memorial Monument was unveiled. “We gather here today to honor the lives and sacrifices made by those officers who lost their lives while serving as law enforcement for the township of brick. This monument stands as a testament to the courage, dedication, and selflessness of protecting the people of this town,” said Ptl. Scott Mesmer, who organized the ceremony. “As we unveil this monument, we remember the faces, the names and the stories of those who have come and gone. We recall the unwavering commitment to protecting our communities, our families, and our freedom. This place will act as a gathering space for everyone to reflect on the sacrifices made by these heroes and by their loved ones left behind. Two synagogues planned for Toms River's North Dover area
TOMS RIVER -- Two applications to build shuls, or Orthodox Jewish synagogues, in the township's North Dover section are scheduled to be heard soon by the Board of Adjustment. KBY Learning Center Inc. has proposed consolidating two lots, located at 1767 Whitesville Road and 186 Jumping Brook Drive, to create a shul and parking on a property that already contains a large single family home.
