BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – A Baton Rouge police officer saved a person attempting to jump from a bridge on Monday, May 6.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said Officer Jakiya Jones was dispatched to the interstate where someone was trying to end their life by jumping off a bridge.

“With assisting officers on scene, Ofc. Jones took the initiative to subtly attempt and establish a rapport with the subject,” police said.

Police said Jones slowly walked towards the person as she was talking to them.

“With just the right timing, Ofc. Jones saw an opportunity to grab the subject, lunging towards them in a breath-taking moment,” police said.
