Ga. lawmakers hold health care oversight meeting in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A Georgia House study committee met Wednesday in Augusta with medical leaders to explore ways to expand healthcare access across the state. Rep. Mark Newton is part of the House Blue-Ribbon Study Committee Health and Healthcare Oversight, and led Wednesday’s hearing. He said Georgia ranks 40th in the nation for physicians per capita and said the state’s population has nearly doubled in 30 years, deepening the need for more doctors — particularly in rural and high-need areas.
