COVID Claims 2 More Lives in Northwest Georgia

Two more Northwest Georgians died from covid over the past seven days, one in Floyd County and another in Bartow.

Since the pandemic began four years ago, 1,512 residents in Floyd, Bartow, Gordon, Polk and Chattooga counties have died from the virus while another 290 were lost to health issues involving covid.

Georgia lost another 38 residents over the last week, including the local cases, boosting the state’s death toll to 36,488 people. Another 7,581 died from “probable” causes.

New cases were down last week for the region, with 57 reported to the state Department of Public Health vs. 68 the previous seven days. They included 20 from Floyd County, 15 from Bartow, a dozen from Gordon, seven from Polk and three from Chattooga.

Statewide, 1,330 new cases were confirmed, up from 1,245 a week earlier.

Free covid tests continue at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds in Rome Monday through Saturday.
