High school track records broken
Recently, track athletes from multiple Macoupin County high schools set historic marks at their respective track and field meets. Hannah Gibson of Carlinville unleashed the furthest discus throw in the history of the Pana Invite at 11.56m Apr. 13. The North Mac girls’ relay team of Kaelyn Swift, Addison Earley, Emma Crawford and Alexis Bowman set a new school record of the fastest 4×200 race with a time of 1:48.34 at the Bert Trump Relays Apr. 24. On Apr. 25, sophomore phenom Chaz Oberkfell ran the fastest 1600-meter race in Gillespie High School history. 1600 meters is the equivalent of a mile, which Oberkfell finished in 4:28.97. Harlem softball picks up road win against Auburn
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Harlem softball shuts out Auburn 11-0 in Thursday afternoon’s NIC-10 conference matchup. Auburn’s Alyssa Lowery tallied her 400th career high school strikeout. Harlem’s Alaina Schwanke pitched seven innings and allowed three hits.
Patrick Dunn heads to Nationals with FCCLA
FCCLA, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, is not a group often talked about when discussing the clubs and extracurriculars available to students in High School. FCCLA is a student led organization dedicated to helping the community and high school students prepare to be activate citizens and leaders in their communities. The Carlinville FCCLA group went to the State Conference and Competition on April 14 and 15 to compete in a variety of categories. From Carlinville, Patrick Dunn competed in Job Interview level 3, Allie Heusing competed in Job Interview level 2, Julia Amos competed in Chapter in Review Display, Hallee Kaburick competed in Sports Nutrition, Liz Hammann competed in Educational Toy, and Brenden Daugherty competed in Public Speaking – FCCLA Creed.
HS baseball: Convery makes play of the year, Carlinville wins at Grizzlies Park
Life is all about second chances and the Carlinville High School baseball team embraced that message on a special trip to Sauget. On Apr. 24, the Cavaliers rematched the Hillsboro Hiltoppers in a non-conference dual at the home of the Gateway Grizzlies and came away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory that featured one of the greatest finishes.
