HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Nauset boys lacrosse remains hot with 5th straight win

After dropping their season opener, the Nauset boys lacrosse team (5-1) have won five straight as they beat Central Catholic 11-8 on Tuesday. Logan Poulin led the way with four goals and an assist, while Ryder Holm (two goals), and Joey Berardi (one goal, two assists) also contributed.

Sawyer McCutchen finished with a goal and one assist, Colby Smith, Andrew Reeves (first varsity) and Riley Meehan each had a goal, and Oscar Escher added one assist. Jake Everson, Sam Mayhew and Daniels Julien led the defense.

In other high school action:

Boys Lacrosse

Bourne 23, New Bedford 3 : The Canalmen (3-1) won in their home opener. Charlie Seitz led the way with six goals and four assists, while Ryan Haden (six goals, two assists), Ty Hawkes (three goals, three assists), and Sean Kelley (three goals, two assists) also had big games on offense for Bourne. Brett Lucier (three goals), Drew Kelley (two goals, two assists), and Max Ridl (one assist) also contributed on offense. Max Beals and Guy Toti combined for 14 saves in goal.

Falmouth 12, Cohasset 7 : The Clippers remain unbeaten at 5-0 as they won on Day 1 of the Chowda Cup. Colin Revenaugh led the way with four goals, while Jackson Falcone finished with two goals and four assists. Cole Gaudet added a goal and two assists, Evan Hauptmann scored twice, Nate Bushy, Charlie Hosteter and Jameson Murphy each contributed a goal for Falmouth. Tommy bushy had 14 saves in goal, while Jacob Porkka, Charlie Bardelis, Nick Guidi and John Cardoza played well on defense.

Barnstable 13, Plymouth North 6 : The Red Hawks (1-4) snapped a four-game slide as they won their first game of the season. Ryan Woeller (three goals, one assist), Conor Cattabriga (two goals, two assists), Doug Carr (two goals, one assist), and Ryan O’Donnell (three goals) led the offense for Barnstable. Jack Bunnell (one, one assist), David Abreu (two goals), and Kyle Cogswell (one assist) all contributed on offense.

Hull 11, Falmouth Academy 6: The Mariners (1-2) came up short on the road.

Girls Lacrosse

Cape Cod Academy 21, St. John Paul II 13 : The Seahawks (3-1) have won three of their last four games, while the Lions (3-3) have lost two of their last three. Arika Umbrello scored five goals and dished out four assists, while Sophie Philbrick (two goals, six assists) and Mia Curley (five goals) also had big games for JPII. Emma Tucker (one goal, one assist, seven draw wins), Charlotte Sturgis (two assists, seven draw wins), while Kiera Nakachi had 15 saves in goal.

Falmouth 13, Dartmouth 10 : The Clippers (2-3) have won back-to-back games after an 0-3 start to the season.

Baseball

Hopedale 7, Bourne 2 : The Canalmen (1-2) lost their first home game of the season. Dante Miglaccio finished with two hits, and three innings of relief on the mound.

Nauset 4, Duxbury 2 : The Warriors (4-1) won the first game of a doubleheader with Duxbury as Jake Doherty went the distance for the win, giving up two runs on six hits and striking out seven. Chase Beach and Paul Alves each had two hits. Kieran Handville came up clutch twice with timely RBIs, which included one with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break the tie. The Warriors tallied nine hits and six stolen bases in game one.

Nauset 9, Duxbury 2 : In the second game of the doubleheader, the Warriors (5-1) swept Duxbury. Ryan O'Keefe pitched a complete game and picked up the win on the mound. After giving up two runs on one hit in the first inning, he shut the Duxbury offense down for six straight innings, scattered four hits and struck out three. Chase Beach finished with three hits and an RBI, Ethan Beer added a hit and three RBIs, and Evan Archer had two hits and an RBI. The Warriors had 11 hits and seven stolen bases.

Braintree 8, Dennis-Yarmouth 4 : John Richard had two hits and scored two runs, which included the tying run that sent the game into an extra inning, but the Dolphins (2-5) came up short in the end.

Boston College H.S. 2, Barnstable 1 : The Red Hawks (4-1) lost their first game of the season. Sladen Johnson pitched a complete game, allowing two runs and striking out 10. Johnson also scored the lone Barnstable run, while Luke Harmon and Matt Meagher each had one hit.

Softball

Fairhaven 17, Bourne 0 : The Lady Canalmen (1-1) lost their first game of the season.

Weymouth 12, Nantucket 1 : The Whalers (1-2) came up short on the road.

Boys Tennis

Seekonk 3, Bourne 2 : The Canalmen (2-2) lost their first road game of the season.
