State champ and more: Cape Cod high school girls indoor track and field athletes to watch

As as the sun starts to shine, it's time to make the transition from indoor (track and field) to outdoor (track and field).

The girls outdoor track and field athletes have not only made a names for themselves on Cape Cod, but also in the state and even in New England.

Here are some girls who are sure to make some noise on the track and in the field this season.

Ava Bullock, Barnstable

The junior will compete in the mile, two-mile, and the 4x800-meter relay this season. Bullock is the school record holder in the mile (5:13.47), two-mile (11:07.2), and a member of the school record setting 4x800m relay team (9:49.98).

Last year, Bullock qualified and competed in the State Meet of Champions in the mile, two-mile, and 4x800m relay. She qualified for the New England Championships in the two-mile, and was named a 2023 Cape and Islands League champion in the mile and a League All-Star.

Lilly DeDecko, Barnstable

In her final high school season, DeDecko will compete in the mile, two-mile, and 4x800m relay. She is the junior class record holder in the mile (5:14.65), two-mile (11:26), and a member of the school record-setting 4x800m relay team (9:49.98).

Last year, DeDecko qualified for and competed in the State Meet of Champions in the mile, two-mile, and 4x800m relay, and was names a 2023 Cape and Islands League All-Star.

Chloe Dibb, Barnstable

Dibb will compete in the 800-meter, 4x400m relay, and 4x800m relay for her senior season. She is the school record holder in the 800m (2:17.08), and a member of the school record-setting 4x800m relay team (9:49.98). Last year, Dibb qualified for and competed in the 800 at the State Meet of Champions (4th place), and qualified for the New England Championships. Dibb was also named a 2023 Cape & Islands League All-Star.

Breanna Braham, Dennis-Yarmouth

The junior is coming off a winter season where she was named the League co-MVP. D-Y head coach Jim Hoar called her "the top sprinter on Cape Cod, and one of the top in Massachusetts."

Braham holds five D-Y sprint records in the 55-meter, 60m, 200m, 300m, and the 400m. She is also the defending Division 5 200m outdoor champion, and placed second in the 400m with two outdoor personal records.

Brianna Hanniford, Dennis-Yarmouth

The senior is the indoor Cape League 55m hurdle champion and a League All-Star. Hoar said she is "one of the top 100m hurdlers on Cape." Hanniford also runs the 400m hurdles and 4 x400m relay, and competes in the high jump.

Siena Lauze, Dennis-Yarmouth

The junior will compete in the 400m, 800m, mile, 4 x400m relay, and the javelin. She was a League All-Star in cross country and outdoors in 2023. Hoar said she is a "very talented and gifted mid distance runner."

Madeline Mahoney, Nauset

Mahoney will compete in the 800m, mile and two-mile for her junior season. As a newcomer last year, she was League champion in the 800m and continued on to All-States.

"Madeline can run and place or win any distance she is put in," Nauset head coach Moira Nobili said. "She is very dedicated to the team and it’s success, and will do whatever is asked of her."

Violet Roche, Nauset

The sophomore will be busy season as she competes in the long jump, triple jump, high jump, 400m, 200m, 4x100m relay, and the 4x400m relay. As a freshman last year, Roche scored the most points for the Warriors, set school records in the high jump, triple jump and long lump, was League MVP, and continued on to All-States.

"Violet is a multitalented athlete," Nobili said. "Violet thrives on competition and pushes herself for the team’s success."

Rhianna Sutherland, Nauset

The junior will compete in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, and the 4x400m relay. Sutherland was the League champion in the 200m last year, and continued on to the All-States in the 100m and 200m.

"Rhianna is an extremely fast and smooth runner," Nobili said. "Each year she gets faster and stronger.

Megan Chaney, Sandwich

The senior captain will compete in the long jump, triple jump and the 400m.

"Megan, not only shows up everyday and works hard to better herself, but she also makes sure to help the underclassmen and cheer them on in their success," Sandwich head coach Amy Clini said.

Emma Jackubica, Sandwich

The senior captain will compete in the 100m hurdles, and the 400m hurdles.

"Having Emma on the team is like having another coach out there with us," Clini said. "She is the most reliable student athlete, balancing six AP classes and being an outstanding captain and athlete."
