Archbishop Curley has named Bobby Jones its new football coach.

A Lynchburg, Virginia, native, Jones brings extensive college coaching experience. He last served as the associate head coach and offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Washington and Lee University, which competes in NCAA Division III.

Jones replaces Demonya Womack, a 2011 Curley graduate who guided the Friars to a 6-5 mark and a trip to the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference semifinals in his lone season.

“I am humbled and elated for the opportunity to lead the Archbishop Curley football program,” Jones said in a statement. “I’d like to thank Principal Jeremy Joseph and Athletic Director Justin Gordon for the opportunity and entrusting me to lead these young men. I have a lot to learn, but am so excited to get started. We will pursue excellence in all that we do relentlessly on and off the field.”

As a player and Washington and Lee, Jones was a four-year starter at offensive tackle and earned a bachelor’s of arts degree in business. He later earned a master’s of education degree from Springfield College in Massachusetts and coached at Springfield, the University of Mary in North Dakota and Rutgers.

“I am so excited for Coach Jones to begin working with our football team,” Curley athletic director Justin Gordon said. “His resume is impressive, but what is most impressive is the human he is and how he values the growth and development of young people.”

At Curley, Jones also will serve as a physical education and health instructor and assistant athletic director.
