Wilderness Center opens Belknap Woods Trail to the public for first time

The Wilderness Center will open a new one-mile public trail at Belknap Woods near Atwood Lake on Nov. 14, giving visitors access to a 112-acre preserve that has been closed to the general public. The nonprofit will offer free guided hikes at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to a community announcement. Registration is required and space is limited. Belknap Woods, in Tuscarawas County, has been protected since 2010 through the Belknap family's commitment to conservation. The preserve had not previously been open for general public access. The Wilderness Center developed the trail with support from The Reeves Foundation as well as its staff, volunteers, members and donors. What hikers can expect The one-mile loop passes through pine plantations and hardwood forests, crosses small streams and covers rolling terrain with more than 100 feet of elevation change. The Wilderness Center says hikers also can encounter American chestnut trees and one of the largest American sycamores its team has observed. The trail offers a more rugged woodland hike than the relatively level limestone-gravel trails at The Wilderness Center's main campus in Wilmot. COSHOCTON − As the revitalization of downtown Coshocton continues, Christi and Jason Dolick hope their new Trackside Pub becomes more than a place to grab a drink. They envision a welcoming neighborhood gathering spot where residents, workers and visitors can relax, eat and connect. "We want everyone to feel at home here, just a place to hang out and relax," said Christi, who owns the business with her husband, Jason. Located in the former Shaw's Corner space on Main Street, Trackside Pub marks a new chapter for Christi.
