I tried Angry Cactus before it opened. Here's what I thought | Exclusive
The lighting is moody, and the interior lands somewhere between electric cowboy and midcentury desert chic. What immediately caught my eye were the massive Western art prints illuminated by neon blue lighting. It's bold, unique and perfectly captures the restaurant's one-of-a-kind vibe. I was one of the lucky people to secure a dinner reservation for one of the training nights at Abilene's soon-to-open Angry Cactus restaurant, and in true reporter fashion, I am here to tell you what I saw and tasted at this exciting restaurant preview. I had high hopes. I won't lie. I've never visited the original location in San Angelo, but all the Facebook buzz had me believing I was in for a flavorful experience. My husband and I secured a reservation for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, the first night of the restaurant's trial-run dinners. Upon entering, I expected good food, but what pleasantly surprised me was the decor. The vibrant interior transported me from Abilene into an electric desert oasis filled with statement artwork, cowhide sofas and abstract lighting fixtures. It's cool. It's hip. It comes across as trendy while also maintaining an original atmosphere that low-key reminds me of a downtown stockyard club.
