Dodge City Run Rules LHS Softball
The Liberal Redskin softball team saw the Dodge City Red Demon softball team score 11 unanswered runs at DCHS beat LHS 13-3 in six innings at Legends Park in Dodge City Tuesday evening. Liberal scored one in the first and Dodge plated two. Liberal scored two in the top of the fifth to lead 3-2. But the Demons countered with seven in the fifth and four in the sixth. Taylor Harding had two of Liberal’s five hits. Dodge won despite five errors and Liberal committed three errors. Dodge City is 3-19 and 1-9 in the WAC as Liberal is 5-16 overall and 0-9 in the WAC. Liberal hosts Dodge City for a double header Thursday at 4pm at the National Beef Sports Complex.
Aaliyah Gutierrez 1st Team All Jayhawk
Liberal, Kansas – After wrapping up the 2024 season this past weekend in the Region VI Tournament, the Seward County Lady Saints softball team saw three of their players named to the All-Conference teams led by Aaliyah Gutierrez who was named to the First Team while Raeana Ortiz and Anberlin O’Dell were placed on the Second Team.
Kappelmann and Contreras Named Redskin Athletes of the Year
Liberal High School hosted their Athletic Award Assembly Monday night in Maskus Auditorium. This year there were 62 Triple Threat Athletes playing at least three different sports. There were 110 student athletes on the All WAC Academic Team. There were 30 athletes named Scholar Athletes and all have a 4.0 GPA. Hayleen Martinez received special recognition after becoming the first female to win state wrestling and winning the Greco and Freestyle State championship this past weekend. Tyren Holmes was recognized as a powerlifting national champion for a squat of 661 lbs, a bench of 391 lbs, and deadlift of 556 lbs for a total of 1,609 lbs. Lisa Batt represented FCA and presented Brooks Kappelmann with his FCA All State Award and Madalyn McCarter with an FCA All Area Award. Here are the award winners.
Cameron Cartwright KJCCC Player of the Week
Liberal, Kansas – After leading the Seward County Saints to a 4-1 record this past week with a series win over Pratt to wrap up the regular season, sophomore Cameron Cartwright was named the KJCCC West Player of the Week for the second time in the 2024 season as the Saints wrap up their regular season with three of the last four player of the week honors.

Liberal Ties Garden City at Redskin Field
The Liberal girls soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with the Garden City Buffaloes Tuesday night at the Gary Cornelsen Sports Complex. Garden scored on a first half penalty kick and led 1-0 at the half. Liberal tied it on a Hailey Contreras header into the goal after a free kick bounced off the GC goalies. Garden City is 9-3-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the WAC. Liberal is 7-6-2 and 2-4-1 in the WAC. Liberal hosts Dodge City Thursday night at 6:30 at Redskin Field.
