AVON N.Y. (WROC) – Even though Avon leaders say the FBI and the State Comptroller’s Office is investigating him and even though the Avon Village Board suspended him without pay because of that, Avon Police Chief Joseph Geer will likely soon start getting a paycheck again.

March 20th was when Geer was suspended without pay. Avon mayor Rob Hayes says according to civil service and their attorney, Geer can be placed on an un-paid suspension for only 30 days.

The former village mayor said Geer was suspended after they found out the state Comptroller’s office was investigating him over bookkeeping and scheduling issues.
At the same time, the Avon Central School district reported the FBI was looking into whether a service provider submitted false claims for work performed at the district. Geer was a school resource officer but no longer holds that position.

“April 19th we will have to place him back on paid suspension. But it isn’t our intention to bring him back at this time,” said Mayor Hayes.

He says that will continue until the investigations clear him of any wrongdoing or disciplinary process has been completed. Or if the village takes any action prior to that.
