Cherry baseball bests Lac qui Parle Valley in Class A quarterfinals
Making their first state tournament appearance since 2008, the No. 1 Cherry baseball team would top Lac qui Parle Valley 6-3 in the Class A quarterfinals Thursday. The Tigers got off to a strong start scoring four runs in the first inning at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. Lac qui Parle Valley would score one run in the second and two in the third to come within in one. Cherry responded in the bottom of the fourth scoring two runs to secure the 6-3.
St. Cloud Cathedral wins third place in state softball
MANKATO – The St. Cloud Cathedral softball team capped its season with a third-place win at the state tournament over the weekend – the best the program has ever finished. Back for the second time in three years at Casswell Park in Mankato, the Crusaders ended on a 3-1 win over St. Agnes on Friday, with pitcher Ella Voit giving up four hits in her final win wearing blue and gold. ...
Esko baseball gets one step closer to defending Class AA title with quarterfinal win
On Thursday the Esko baseball team earned a state quarterfinal win over Montevideo to get one step closer to defending their Class AA title. No. 1 Esko held off Montevideo 3-2 in their Class AA quarterfinal held at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud. Esko scored all three of their runs right away in the first inning. Montevideo wouldn’t respond until the fourth when Benjamin Gunlogson scored two runs to come within one. Esko’s defense held strong to propel them into their second straight state semifinal.
