(Avoca, IA) – AHSTW ended up in fifth place on Wednesday afternoon at Nishna Hills for the Western Iowa Conference boy’s golf tournament. The Vikings were able to shoot a 352 as a team and were able to do so for the first time this season on an 18-hole course. Head Coach Aaron Allspach was happy with how his boys took on the extra nine holes and actually ended up playing better with the extra nine holes.

Two top golfers in the WIC Tournament were Drew Lee and Nate Jorgensen. Lee shot an 86 on the day, even while not playing his best golf on the front nine with a 48. His success came on the back-nine where he was able to shoot a 38 for one of his best nine-hole performances of the season. Nate Jorgensen shot even better on the day with one stroke less at 85. Jorgensen was consistent throughout the day and kept the stroke count low. Not only did these two impress, but Zach Nielsen shot 39 on the front nine and finished with a 90, and Cash Freeman shot a 91 with a great front-nine performance.

The regular season is not done yet for AHSTW as they’ve got one home dual left against Tri-Center on Friday. For the seniors, this will be the last time that they get out for a home dual in their high school career, and they’ll be taking advantage of that opportunity come Friday evening.

AHSTW’s final home dual will help prepare the Vikings for what comes next week at the Quail Run Golf Course in sectional play. They’ll be facing off against some of the region’s toughest competition including Missouri Valley and Treynor in sectionals play which shows just how important Friday’s dual is to the Vikings moving into next week.

Friday marks the final dual of the regular season at the Avoca CountryView Club with the dual starting at 4:00 p.m. The Vikings will be in Neola in Sectionals play this coming Wednesday, May 8th.
