CHSRA Seeking Input on Central Valley Heavy Maintenance Facility Site
FRESNO, Calif. - The California High-Speed Rail Authority is seeking input from the public on the proposed Central Valley Heavy Maintenance Facility. According to the release, this proposed facility will support long-term operations of the future high-speed rail system. The Heavy Maintenance Facility (HMF) will be a primary location for “inspections, servicing, maintenance, overhaul and major component replacement for the high-speed train fleet.” In 2023, the Authority initiated a screening and environmental evaluation process and came up with 11 potential sites. Now, that list has narrowed, and there are two locations in Fresno and Kings County near Hanford that will be evaluated. These sites were selected based on what meets operational needs, its compatibility with land use, and construction feasibility along with environmental considerations and impacts to nearby communities.
