Austintown moves location of 4th of July fireworks, expands event offerings

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Some changes are in store when Austintown celebrates the 4th of July this year.

Those on the committee planning the event say they have outgrown the previous location at the plaza, so they are moving to Hollywood Gaming.

This includes the fireworks show and family activities.

They say the new venue will let them double what they offer and extend the hours.

“We essentially had outgrown our location where we were at at the plaza, and believe or not, we’ve got more parking on this site here at Hollywood Gaming. And we’ve got that big open field, which is just a blank canvas for us to be able to put on more events for the children, more events for the adults,” said Jim Davis, Austintown July 4th committee chair.

Committee members received big checks from Hollywood Gaming, Greenwood Chevy and the township trustees totaling $45,000 to help underwrite this year’s event.

The event is set for Sunday, June 30. The township’s annual parade will be held July 4.

Kids activities will be held from noon to 8 p.m., featuring character appearances, pony rides, inflatables, a magic show, balloons, a petting zoo, a dunk tank and face painting.

Live music and entertainment begins at noon with the following schedule:

• DJ Stan the Man: from noon to 4 p.m.
• Decades: from 4-5:30 p.m.
• LedSmith: From 6:15-7:15 p.m.
• Fitch Concert Choir performance at 7:45 p.m.
• Classic Stones Live (a Rolling Stones tribute band): from 8:15-9:45 p.m.

Fireworks begin at 10 p.m.

This year will be the 10th year for the celebration.
