WJBF’s number one fan turns 100 years old

AUGUSTA, Ga. WJBF) – A loyal WJBF fan turns 100 years old today. Her family says she doesn’t miss a newscast and says she has to be NewsChannel 6’s number one fan.

This is the very spot Mary Pearl Dean watches each newscast, and Wednesday, she’s celebrating her 100th birthday watching our WJBF Team and celebrating with her loved ones.

“She gets all the presents,” James Dean said. *laughter*

James Dean is the son to Mary Pearl, who also happens to share a birthday with his mother. But really, Dean and his family say she’s the gift that keeps on giving.

“This day, I just wanted her to be able to live to see 100, because it’s so hard to live to see 100, and that’s what means so much to me. To see her– she’s in her right mind, she doesn’t have amnesia, she can walk, she can talk, she loves her church members. One thing I wanna say, she really loves her pastor, Larry Carter,” Dean’s daughter Mary Louise Carpenter said.

Speaking of things she loves, Dean tells me in addition to her faith and family, she enjoys watching TV whether it be General Hospital or NewsChannel 6.

“It’s nice, it gives you good news and it’s funny, and it’s– it’s good. That’s all I can say it’s good…and I love ‘em,” Mary Pearl Dean said.

Wednesday afternoon, her loved ones showed up to celebrate the century-long accomplishment.

“…God has kept her, and she kept us in prayer. She made sure she loved everybody loved her and she always talks about the Lord to, to make sure the first thing you get is the Lord. If you don’t know the Lord, it ain’t cause she ain’t taught it to you, you just ain’t doing it,” Dean’s Daughter Josie Dean said.

“I had 10, the Lord took two of ‘em. I got eight still living, and I don’t know how many grandchildren, about 50 I bet. *laughs* “Yeah child, my children are good to me, and I just love ‘em…,” Dean said.

Dean says the key to a long, healthy life is family and faith
