2nd annual Wiener Fest happening at Savannah River Brewing Co.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) –  Local food blogger Scott Russell is known for supporting local restaurants with his blog “ 6bitesin ” and local businesses with “ Love Augusta .”

Last year, Russel teamed up with Savannah River Brewing Co. to host hot dog festival, Wiener Fest .

The event features plenty of activities, and is returning for it’s second year on Saturday, May 18th, from 1pm to 5pm, at Savannah River Brewing Co.

We sat down with Russell to talk about this years event and what people can expect.

What is Wiener Fest?

“It is a hot dog eating contest, it’s vendors selling their special custom hotdogs at Savannah River Brewing Company on May 18th from 1 to 5.”

What made you decide to start doing this?

“Me and the Love Augusta crew were trying to give back to the community and we all just fell on Wiener Fest and we didn’t know if we could really make it happen and the turn out was amazing, everyone had a great time, it was way busier than we thought so, we’re planning ahead this year. Hopefully the lines won’t be as long and everyone will get a hot dog.”

What makes this event so special?

“Everyone loves hot dogs, the hot dog eating contest is epic, it’s five minutes long, the guy that won last year ate 18, so bring your A game if you’re going to be in this, because he’s coming back.”

“If you were to say one thing to get people to come out to this event, would would you say to them to come out.”
