    A convicted felon was charged in an Augusta killing. Here's his criminal history.

    A convicted felon was arrested Friday in connection to a fatal shooting that took place in April in Augusta.

    Bennelle Evans, 38, of Augusta, was arrested in McDuffie County and is charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a gun by a convicted felon and possession of a gun during a crime, according to a news release from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

    Just before 11 p.m. on April 21, Richmond County deputies responded to the 300 block of Williamsburg Drive for shots fired with one injured, according to the release.

    When deputies arrived, they found Gregory Campbell, 24, of Grovetown, who was shot at least once, according to the release. He later died at the hospital.

    2018 Augusta bank robbery, other arrests

    In 2018, Evans, then-32 years old, was charged in an armed robbery at Fifth Third Bank on Pine Needle Road.

    He was charged with armed robbery, possession of a gun during a crime and possession of a gun by a convicted felon, according to previous reporting .

    Evans' other previous arrests, according to Richmond County Clerk of Court records, include:

    • April 2003: Criminal trespass. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year of probation, ordered to pay a $187.50 fine and serve 40 hours of community service.
    • April 2004: Felony statutory rape. He received first offender status and the charge was dropped to criminal attempt of statutory rape. He was sentenced to five years of probation and issued a $1,250 fine.
    • February 2006: Violation of Georgia instructional permit and possession of marijuana. He was sentenced to two years of probation, 40 hours of community service and issued a $905 fine.
    • August 2006: Felony possession of a gun by a first offender probationer and possession of marijuana. He pleaded guilty to both charges, having the felony weapons charge dropped to misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon. He was sentenced to two months in prison.
    • June 2007: Safety belt violations and no driver's license. He was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay a $700 fine.
    • February 2008: Felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. He pleaded guilty to the drug charge and was sentenced to three years in prison.
    • December 2010: Felony giving false statements in government matters. He pleaded guilty.
    • February 2014: Felony possession of a gun by a convicted felon, felony theft by receiving stolen property, possession of marijuana and no seatbelt for a minor. He pleaded guilty to all but the theft charge and was sentenced to two years in prison and three years of probation. He was also issued a $325 fine.
    • October 2015: Possession of marijuana. The case was dismissed three years later.
    • March 2016: Felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, felony possession of a gun during a crime, felony possession of a gun by a convicted felon, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, failure to maintain lane, speeding, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road, disregarding an official traffic control device and driving with a suspended license. He was sentenced to three years in prison and seven years of probation.
    • January 2018: Felony armed robbery, three counts of felony possession of a gun during a crime, felony criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, felony aggravated assault and felony possession of a gun by a convicted felon. The case was dismissed three years later.
    • June 2023: Material on front windshield obstructing view. He was issued a $100 fine.
