Audubon Boy’s Baseball Off to a Much Better Start

(Audubon, IA) – While the scores may not show it through the first three games, the Audubon Wheelers are off to a much better start. This season, they’re led by first-year baseball coach Eric Borkowski, who previously led the Audubon softball program to multiple seasons of success. He is already seeing his athletes push forward while not giving up out on the field. These kids are not striking out as much and have a more positive attitude to start the season.

One of the major things that these boys are already improving on is the strikeout rate. The Wheelers may have had a few strikeouts swinging, but if there is any way to strike out, that is the way a player needs to do it. Coach Borkowski has also seen the fielding errors dwindle down with just one to two errors at most per game this year compared to the three to four on average last season.

Coach Borkowski mentioned that a few spotlight players to look at this season are Colton Hansen, Aaron Olsen, and Brody Schultes. They have already seen some improvement at the plate and out on the field alongside their teammates who also have a spot to jump into the spotlight this season.

Audubon plays in one of the toughest conferences in the region, the Western Iowa Conference. This gives the Wheelers an advantage in postseason play as they’ll be able to utilize that experience throughout the season to be able to improve when they head to postseason action. While the record may not show it at the end of the day, the team can be a true competitor.

Looking ahead, the Wheelers are going to be taking on Treynor in a conference matchup. The best way to tackle the Cardinals is for the Wheelers to play their game of baseball. That includes throwing strikes and doing things the right way. Treynor lost their first game of the season to Kuemper Catholic 9-4, so both teams will go into the competition winless.

Audubon travels to Treynor to take on the Cardinals on Wednesday, with the opening pitch at 7:15 p.m.
