There were plenty of great performances on the softball field last week, and Jennifer Toland found some of the best for readers to vote on to decide the Hometeam Softball Player of the Week.
Congratulations to Auburn's Adele Gaston, who recorded 2,072 votes (40.2 percent) to take the top spot in last week's poll . She was able to edge Clinton's Ana Varakis (1,859 votes) for the race in over 5,100 votes.
Player of the week nominations are selected by reporters based on coaches reporting game results into the Telegram & Gazette sports department and game coverage from the T&G sports department staff. Renee Arcand, Blackstone-Millville
The junior struck out 12 in a no-hitter against Southbridge, homered and drove in three runs.
Ava Askren, Clinton
The senior had two doubles and drove in four runs in the Gaels’ 1-1 week.
Tori Belcastro, Leominster
The senior led the Blue Devils to a 3-0 week in the circle and at the plate. In three starts, she allowed three earned runs and struck out 23 batters. She collected six hits, including a homer, and drove in four runs.
Lizzie Brytowski, Hopedale
The senior ace struck out 41 batters, including the 400 th of her career, to lead the Blue Raiders to a 3-0 week. She collected six hits and drove in seven runs.
Madelyn Glynn, AMSA
The sophomore collected four hits, including a pair of doubles, and drove in three runs to lift the Eagles to a 2-0 week.
Ava Grant, St. Paul
The freshman allowed one hit and struck out 10 in five shutout innings to lift the Knights in a win over Notre Dame Academy. Grant had three hits, including a home run.
Alison Hazel, Oakmont
The junior went 4 for 5 with five RBIs to lead the Spartans to a win over Westborough.
A.J. Hogan, Northbridge
The senior drove in four runs to lift the Rams to a win over Southbridge during a 3-0 week.
Kiley Hogan, Tyngsborough
The sophomore struck out 14 batters and went 3 for 3 in a win over Chelmsford. She went 3-3 with a home run and five RBIs in a loss to Hudson.
Heidi Jarosz, Shepherd Hill
The senior collected 4 hits, including a home run, drove in 2 runs and scored 4 times in the Rams’ 1-1 week.
Abigail Karlon, Maynard
The freshman’s two-out single in the bottom of the sixth drove in Haley Carroll with the go-ahead run in the Tigers’ 3-2 victory over Tahanto Regional.
Lynsey Kay, Valley Tech
The senior totaled six hits, including a pair of home runs in a win over Worcester Tech, and helped the Beavers to a 2-1 week.
Annah Long, Tahanto
The senior drove in the winning run in the eighth inning to lead Tahanto past Clinton and had two hits and scored two runs in a win over Gardner.
Ayla McDermott, Douglas
The freshman went 5 for 7 with a home run to lead the Tigers to a 2-1 week. She drove in two runs and scored four times.
Erin O’Day, Uxbridge
The sophomore struck out 11 in a two-hit shutout of Oxford while going 3 for 4 with a home run. She struck out six in two innings and combined with Katherine Pratt for a perfect game against Bartlett.
Lauren O’Malley, Hudson
The junior doubled, homered and drove in five runs in the Hawks’ two victories.
Hannah Reardon, Nashoba
The senior hurled a one-hit shutout against Algonquin Regional and struck out 25 batters in the Wolves’ 1-1 week.
Amanda Roche, Wachusett
The senior went 3 for 3 with five RBIs to lead the Mountaineers to an opening win over Westborough.
Jillian Roache, Millbury
In the Woolies' three games, the junior belted three home runs, including a grand slam, and collected eight hits.
Janelle Scirocco, Nipmuc
The senior powered the Warriors to a 3-0 week. In wins over Millbury and Sutton, Scirocco went 9 for 10 with a home run, a double and 11 RBIs.
Catherine Seay, Marlborough
The senior blasted four homers and drove in nine runs to lead the Panthers to a 3-1 week.
Sarah Viveiros, Lunenburg
The senior homered and drove in six runs to lead the Blue Knights to an opening win over Quabbin Regional.
