AUBURN, Maine — There have been hundreds of crashes and more than a dozen fatalities along Route 4 in Auburn, Turner and Livermore over the last decade. 8 Investigates highlighted the issue earlier this year and now a possible solution. There is a plan to add a dedicated patrol officer to the stretch of road, with hopes of reducing the number of accidents and fatalities.

Two incidents occurred in Oxford, Maine this week. In the first incident, a mother was arrested for allegedly encouraging her son's criminal activities, which involved stealing a car and breaking into two stores. In the second incident, a worker was killed while paving a road in Oxford. The worker was hit by a co-worker and died at the scene. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the worker's death.

LEWISTON, Maine — Two women were arrested within 24 hours of each other during separate traffic stops in the Lewiston area, resulting in drug trafficking charges. Investigators say the first arrest was on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 12:11 a.m., when Lewiston police pulled over Amber Swift, 39, of Belgrade, due to a traffic violation. Officers found that Swift had an outstanding arrest warrant and took her into custody.

Superintendent Jake Langlais of Lewiston Middle School has appealed for calm following a disturbing social media post. The post showed threats of knife violence. Langlais, working with school officials and Lewiston Police, has investigated these threats. They have determined them to be not credible. So far, no extra information has been released.
