Michigan medical examiner warns about 6 apparent drug overdoses in 11 days
A mid-Michigan medical examiner is raising the alarm after seeing an “unusual” series of fatal drug overdoses. In an April 19 public health warning, Dr. William Morrone said there have been six apparent drug overdoses in 11 days, including two Tuscola County deaths within 24 hours. Morrone serves as the chief medical examiner for Arenac, Bay, Iosco, Midland and Tuscola counties.
147-year-old lighthouse in Iosco County to reopen following renovations
After more than a year of restoration efforts, the Tawas Lighthouse is almost ready to shine again. Tucked away between Tawas Bay and Lake Huron up in Iosco County, the 67-foot-tall lighthouse is nearly set to reopen for the spring and summer season, and in honor of its reopening, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the Michigan History Center and the Friends of Tawas Point Lighthouse and State Park are partnering to kick the season off with an all-day event on May 2 — 147 years to the date since a light first shone from the lighthouse's lantern room.
FBI, police looking for suspect in Michigan bank robbery
(CBS DETROIT) - The FBI and Hampton Township police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who allegedly robbed a bank in Essexville in Bay County. According to the FBI, the man entered the Sunrise Family Credit Union at 190 N. Powell Road around 10:30 a.m. on April 9 and threatened a bank teller with a semiautomatic pistol, demanding money. The FBI says the man was wearing a black hat with a white American flag logo, a black hoodie, black jeans, tennis shoes and a white face mask. He is described as being between 5-foot-10 and 6-feet tall, with a slim build. He may be in his 40s. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI Detroit Field Office at 313-965-2323.
