West girls earn runner-up finish at 3A regional for second straight year
OCEAN — The West Carteret girls finished second last weekend at the 3A east regional track and field championship. The Patriots posted 68.5 points to pull away from Jacksonville with 62 and Northside-Jacksonville with 58. They have been the runner-up for the last two seasons after winning the regional in 2022.
County softball squads lose in first round of state playoffs
CARTERET COUNTY — The softball season came to an end for all three county teams in the first round of the state playoffs. Croatan nearly advanced to the second round but fell 2-1 in 11 innings to Eastern Alamance, East Carteret dropped a 6-1 contest to Jordan-Matthews, and West Carteret suffered a 5-0 loss to South Johnston.
