This North Carolina Pizza Shop Just Earned Michelin Recognition For Its Carefully Crafted Pies

Michelin inspectors apparently walked up to an alley window and found something worth remembering. I cannot get over that image. There is no dining room here, no reservation book, and no polished service ritual waiting inside. Just a wood-fired oven, a walk-up counter, and 10-inch sourdough pies made with freshly...

3-Foot Alligator Crashes Southport Bagel Shop, Waits at Counter Like a Customer

A three-foot alligator wandered through an open back door at Bagel Dock Express in Southport on Thursday afternoon, sprinted across the kitchen, and turned up at the front counter as if it were waiting in line for an order. The shop was closed to customers at the time, around 4:30 p.m., when owner Jesse Driscoll, busy overseeing the installation of a new oven, looked up to find the reptile staring back at him.

Alligator slips into bagel shop, greets owner at front counter, NC video shows

An alligator with a goofy sense of humor crawled through the back door of a North Carolina bagel shop, then stood at the front counter as if waiting to take someone’s order. It happened around 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Bagel Dock Express in Southport, and the gator was discovered when the shop’s stunned owner rounded a corner. Surveillance video shows Jesse Driscoll stopped dead in his tracks, hopped across the lobby, and grabbed a chair as if preparing to tame a lion. He then called 911. The young alligator was also taken off guard, and is seen backing away in search of an exit. “Apparently, word of our fresh bagels has made its way into the swamp!” the shop wrote in an Oct. 29 Facebook post. “No injuries, no drama … just one very unusual customer! Fresh bagels. Wild experiences.” It’s coincidental, but appropriate that it happened just two days before Halloween. The backdoor was open when the 3-foot alligator happened by, and surveillance video shows it entered with confidence and sprinted through the kitchen to the counter. “Just walked in like he knew where to go,” the shop wrote on social media. Driscoll was nearby the whole time, but

This North Carolina Kayaking Adventure Takes You Across A Lake Where Wild Alligators Roam

The part that gets me is how calm the water can look right before someone points out an alligator. American alligators are often spotted on these guided North Carolina paddles from March through November, and hearing them called “living dinosaurs” feels pretty accurate once one appears near the shoreline.

10 North Carolina Gluten-Free Bakeries Serving Treats Worth Driving Miles For

A former tennis pro now spends mornings making gluten-free bagels in North Carolina. I love that plot twist. Trading a racket for a rolling pin takes serious nerve. The surprises keep coming across the state. One Italian bakery sells gluten-free almond mousse cakes and chocolate hazelnut tarts beside its classic pastries. Another shop stocks take-and-bake cinnamon buns in a freezer case, so the treat can ride home with you.
