Friday, June 21 is the United Way of Marathon County’s Day of Action. Your family, group, or workplace can get involved in one of two ways: (1.) in the Community Closet, 2-4 p.m., sorting clothing donations and cleaning up the shopping area; or, (2.) help spruce up the Hunger Coalition’s community garden, 1-5 p.m., painting its fence and shed. State, local campgrounds see Memorial weekend influx
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - A number of people will spend the weekend outdoors camping for Memorial weekend. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources manages the State Park System and the campgrounds within it. State campgrounds are split into four regions. In the northeast region, which includes Wausau, there are 15 state-managed campgrounds. All of which, are full for Memorial weekend.

2 charged in large-scale meth trafficking scheme
WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - A 33-year-old Weston man and 38-year-old Wausau man charged in a recent drug bust remain in the Marathon County Jail on high cash bonds. John Walker is charged with four counts including maintaining a drug trafficking place. Jonathan Stanke is charged with three counts including resisting an officer.
Athens native gets paper published in scientific journal
A paper by Ripon College student Greta M. Mahler of Athens, class of 2025, and Barbara Sisson, associate professor of biology, has been published in the journal Zebrafish. “Teaching Fin Regeneration Using a Dominant Negative Receptor” is included in the education issue of the journal. It details a laboratory exercise Sisson conducted with her Developmental Biology course students.
