Softball leaders Chequamegon and Athens to meet

The Athens High School girls softball team remains in first place with a 5-0 record in the Marawood-North conference and a 9-2 overall record. The team will play at second place Chequamegon on April 30, before hosting the Eagles on May 2.

Chequamegon is 3-1 in the conference and 9-1 overall. The Eagles most recently won 2-1 against Newman Catholic, and are on a six game win streak after taking two-game series from Prentice and Flambeau, and splitting a series with Phillips.

Chequamegon hosts Ironwood next on April 29, before the Athens series, and then travels to Stratford on May 3, before hosting Drummond on May 6.

Phillips is in a solid third place at 3-3 in the conference and 3-4 overall. The Loggers most recently lost 16-0 at home against Stratford on April 26. The team hosts Rib Lake on April 30, before heading to Rib Lake on May 2, and to Edgar on May 3.

Rib Lake is 2-2 in the conference and 6-6 overall. The team lost 10-4 to Auburndale on April 26, and will travel next to Northern Pines on April 29, before the two game series with Phillips.

Prentice is 0-6 in the conference and 0-11 overall. The Buccaneers head to Athens next on May 7, before hosting Athens on May 9, and host Newman Catholic on May 10.

Over in the Northern Lights Conference, the Butternut Mercer Pioneer softball team is 1-4 and are 4-6 overall. The Pioneers defeated Prentice 31-8 on April 26, and will head to South Shore next on April 29, before hosting Bessemer on May 2, and Drummond on May 10.
