SPEECH: Robert Layton's speech for Class Treasurer

Editor's NOTE: Our son wrote a speech to announce his candidacy for Class Treasurer. This is an excellent speech — I wish more today's leaders had conviction and stood for something rather than demonize the opposition and pursue their own self interest. Robert is a candidate and a leader for ALL the people, not just the ones who agree with him. Well done son, well done!

Good afternoon

My name is Robert Layton and I am a candidate for Class Treasurer

My friend, I'll say it clear, I'll state my case, of which I'm certain. I am not here to sales pitch and advertise myself as such a grand person. I've led five separate lives in five different schools. I've loved, laughed and cried. I've had my fair share of losing. Every single mistake I make, it all leads to here. Nothing and no one truly is flawless. So that I do not promise anything I don't speak of.

But I speak for truth. I speak for reason. I stand here today with a promise of security. I will stand however the wind may blow, and I will stand for justice. Through very well the hardest year you may face, I stand here and ask you not for more, but I ask of you that of trust.

I humbly request for an open hand, in that to preserve democracy, the voices and perspectives of the public are acknowledged, heard. My goal is purely to act as best I can to protect you, your interests, any bloody ideas, and your thoughts.

I stand for justice. So whilst the people live to the fullest, I stand by them for the respect of originality and uniqueness. I promise not to take time away from you. I will serve as a voice between you and your leaders.

As someone who has experienced different walks of life, I understand that every individual has their own unique story and perspective.

This is why I vow to uphold the principles of a representative government, in which every voice matters and every opinion is respected.

I shall work tirelessly to ensure that the administration of Student Council remains accountable and transparent in its doings, and that the welfare of the people comes first. I stand for justice, and I speak for truth. I do not promise which I do not say. I am a voice for the people.
