    Athens tennis grabs pair of victories over Logan & Gallia Academy

    Athens’ tennis picked up a pair of home victories last week, edging out a close 3-2 victory over Logan on Wednesday before cruising to a sweep of Gallia Academy on Thursday for senior night. Here’s how the results broke down for the Bulldogs.

    3-2 Victory vs. Logan

    In the No. 1 spot, senior Sam Kim would drop a close 6-2, 6-3 match to Owen Godrim for the Chieftains’ lone singles victory. Eli McCarthy would defeat Zach Aldridge 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 2 spot while Zach Barsamian would also secure a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Dominicki Baxley.

    In doubles action, the sophomore duo of Griffin Meyer and Braeden Talley would fall in a tough three-set battle, dropping the sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to Xavier Lawson and Logan Keck. The play of Silas Walter-Wilde and Jacob Krause in the No. 2 doubles slot would help secure the team victory for Athens with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Soldier Roberts and William Hunt.

    5-0 Victory vs. Gallia Academy

    On a sunny Thursday in The Plains, Athens was able to celebrate every bit of the moment with a relatively stress-free sweep. Celebrating senior night, seniors Kim and Barsamian would each grab dominant victories in singles action. Kim would grab a 6-0, 6-0 sweep while Barsamian took down his opponent 6-1, 6-1.

    In the No. 2 singles slot, McCarthy would end up grabbing a 6-0, 6-0 victory as well.

    In doubles action, Meyer and Walter-Wilde would grab a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the No. 1 slot while Jack Amos and senior Ahmad Abdelqader would complete the team sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the No. 2 slot.
