before getting thrown out at second to end the inning as Athens took a one-run advantage.

With both teams threatening but not able to put any runs across home over the next couple innings, Jackson finally broke through in the third with the help of a crucial error. With a runner on base and two outs, Bennett would commit an error in right field to allow the inning to continue just before consecutive RBI singles from Wyant and Woldord stole the lead for Jackson, making it a 2-1 game.

Athens would then go down in order in each of the next two frames before the Ironmen tacked onto the lead, once again taking advantage of errors from the Bulldogs’ defense. This time a throwing error from Sharp would allow a runner to score from third base, making it a 3-1 game at the time with Athens still firmly in it.

The Bulldogs would get a pair of runners on base in the bottom of the fifth but couldn’t convert, all before Jackson ripped off a four-run sixth inning to open up a significant lead. The Ironmen would get their runs with a pair of RBI singles and a bases-loaded hit by pitch to create the six-run lead.

Athens would get runners on base in each of the final two frames but the deficit was just too great as the Bulldogs had to accept the reality of their first loss in a month.
