Has Kirby Smart become the model for coaching in college football

On Thursday, the University of Georgia announced that head football coach, Kirby Smart received a salary increase of $13 million a year and a two-year contract extension, which now makes him the highest paid coach in college football as the new, 10-year contract extension will keep Smart on board with Georgia through the 2033 season.

“Listen, the whole things at Georgia is, they’re on a roll, they’re on a heater of all time,” Steak Shapior said on Friday as he and Sandra Golden reacted to the news of Smart’s contract extension, adding that the Athens, Georgia campus has become one of the country’s top destinations for not just athletics but academics as well and the success of Smart and the Bulldogs’ football team has played a large role in Georgia’s popularity.

As Shapiro and Golden would both agree that Smart’s extension was more than deserving, Golden would note that a recent article from Front Office Sports did an analysis on Smart’s new deal in which by their breakdown, Georgia head coach, “on paper, real numbers, should be making around 30 million if you look at he is the CEO of Georgia’s business,” Golden said in reference to the Front Office Sports piece.

“He has just done everything Georgia fans have dreamed of,” Shapiro said of Smart since taking over the Bulldogs’ program.
