Franklin PUD electric rates may go up, followed by possible Benton PUD increase
The Franklin PUD Commission is considering two scenarios for raising power rates, potentially adding up to about $45 a year to the average annual residential bill in 2027. The Benton PUD Commission also is considering raising rates. A proposal for an increase for Benton PUD customers is expected to be released late this month, with a public hearing and the start of a public comment period on Nov. 10. The Franklin Public Utility District held its public hearings last week with one proposed scenario raising the average residential bill a total of $42.24 a year and the other scenario raising the average residential bill by $44.88. However, the higher rate increase would start later in the year. All other classes of customers, such as industrial and irrigation, also would be raised by about the same percentage as residential customers under both proposals being considered.

Well known Tri-City heating and air company founder has died
Robert “Bob” D. Rhodes, the Kennewick heating and air conditioning executive who lent his name to two Tri-Cities businesses, has died. Rhodes died Oct. 11 in Richland. He was 87. Rhodes was born in Portland, Maine but lived in the Tri-Cities for 65 years. In 1971, he joined the former Dean Jacobs Heating and Air Conditioning, which became Jacobs and Rhodes at the time. He left that shop in 1976 and went on to establish Bob Rhodes Heating & Air Conditioning in Kennewick. The business he founded announced his death in a fond Facebook post that noted he “officially retired when the EPA made the horrible decision to switch HVAC from R-22 to 410A.” “(R)etirement never meant he stopped keeping tabs on what was happening around the shop.” He is survived by his wife, Betty. Mueller’s Tri-Cities Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
