Hanover County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident in which a teenager attacked one of his parents with a knife before setting his house on fire.

Just before 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12, authorities say they received reports of a teenage boy walking around with a hatchet in the neighborhood of Hickory Hill in Ashland.

Police arrived at the scene and found the teen walking around Farleigh Way, where his house is. He had reportedly attacked his parent with a knife and then gone outside carrying the hatchet before striking and damaging his parent’s car with it.

The teen is in police custody, and the parent is in the hospital with a “significant laceration.” The parent’s injuries are not considered life threatening.

The teen is being charged with malicious wounding and arson. The incident is still under investigation.
