'It's infectious.' Undefeated Green Oaks football team breathes life into, unites Cooper Road
Green Oaks football is 6-0. It’s the Giants’ best start since former head coach Gerald Kimball did so in 1988. The team has all but secured its first playoff berth in three seasons. A victory Friday at Homer could pave the path to the program’s first eight-plus-win season in nearly 40 years and set the table for an epic District 1-2A winner-take-all showdown with Calvary in Week 10.

Evangel’s Aiden Carter is a Swiss Army Knife for the Eagles
If you were Evangel’s Aiden Carter, you would be a very, very tired young man on Saturday morning. That’s the way it is week after week each fall for the multi-talented junior who rarely leaves the football field while making plays that bring Eagle fans to their feet. Against Byrd on Friday (Oct. 23) night, Carter was the deep man on kickoffs, made several outstanding receptions from freshman quarterback Briggs Berlin and picked off a pass late in the first half to stop a potential Byrd scoring drive. All in a night’s work when you’re playing 5A football with a roster that’s more like 2A in size. “Aiden Carter is the type player every successful program needs,” Evangel coach Denny Duron said. “While he could receive plenty of recognition for what he brings to the game of football, it’s the things he does behind the scenes that truly set him apart.” HUNTINGTON WINS: Huntington scores late to slip past Captain Shreve on senior night PREDICTIONS: Find out which Shreveport-area football teams should win Week 8 games Unfortunately for Carter, his effort was in a losing cause as Byrd (1-7) won its first game of the season 28-24 thanks to two

Unfortunately, the Gyrenes fell in the opener, losing to the LSU Shreveport Pilots 69-54. If the old saying is correct in that the first basket can predict how a season will go, then Gyrenes don't need to worry about this season. Right off the opening tipoff, Parker Straub knocked down the first three-pointer of the season, getting an assist from freshman newcomer Elena Snyder.

Byrd, Haughton, Loyola, North DeSoto, Northwood among Friday winners
A spectacular night of North Louisiana football saw Byrd win its first game of the 2026 season, Haughton move to 8-0 for the first time in forever and North DeSoto needing 78 points to put away Franklin Parish . Byrd 28, Evangel 24: Senior Christian Maxie rushed 20 times for 210 yards, including a pair of 46-yarders in the fourth quarter, to give the Jackets (1-7) their first win of the season.
