Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rebecca Tepper elevated the Northeast Region from Level 1 — Mild Drought to Level 2 — Significant Drought, while the Connecticut River Valley Region improved from mild drought to normal conditions.

Pouring rain last night helped some spots pick up 1 inch or more of water from a swift-moving storm just south of the Islands. It’s tempting to attribute all the rain to the remnants of Isaias, but we lost contact with that swirl of wind, clouds and downpours yesterday. No doubt some of the showers were mixed up in there, but it’s impossible to distinguish what was what.

Despite the recent nor’easter and other rain events, drought designations for the Cape, South Coast and Islands did not change in September. The Massachusetts Drought Management Task Force met on Thursday and voted to keep drought levels the same in southeastern Massachusetts.
