ASBURY PARK, NJ – As summer approaches, Asbury Park officials have outlined the seasonal regulations for dog access on the city’s beaches and boardwalk, ensuring clarity for dog owners and protection for local wildlife.

From May 16 to September 14, dogs are prohibited from the Asbury Park beaches, except for the designated Dog Beach, where they can roam during restricted early morning and evening hours. The Asbury Park Dog Beach, accessible via Deal Lake Drive beach entrance or the north end of Fisherman’s Parking Lot, will welcome dogs from 6 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. Dogs must be off the beach by 8:30 a.m., and they may be off-leash if supervised, no seals are present, and their behavior is controlled.

In contrast, the Boardwalk will remain off-limits to dogs during this period to accommodate the influx of tourists and ensure public safety.

During the off-season, from September 15 through May 15, the regulations relax significantly. Dogs are allowed on both the Boardwalk and the Asbury Park Dog Beach at all times, provided they are leashed and supervised. This provides ample opportunity for residents and their furry friends to enjoy the scenic views and outdoor activities the boardwalk has to offer.

The city reminds dog owners to always clean up after their pets, with violators facing fines up to $1,000. All dogs must be licensed and wear collars with valid tags. Additionally, during seal season, dog owners are urged to keep their pets leashed near the water until they can verify no seals are present on the beach. The Marine Mammal Protection Act enforces strict penalties for harassment of seals, emphasizing the importance of responsible pet handling.

Asbury Park’s commitment to balancing recreational activities with environmental stewardship and public safety continues to make it a welcoming destination for all, including those on four legs.
