Car crashed between two trains near Asbury

JASPER COUNTY, Mo. (KOAM) — About 11:50 p.m. late Friday night reports of a car in a collision with two trains south of Asbury, Mo. alerted Jasper County E-911.

Asbury Fire Dept, Jasper County Deputies and METS AMB responded. Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified.

On scene we learn a northbound CR300 car had crashed into a train at County Road 300 and Mo-171. That train was slowly pulling into a siding. Then a short time later, the car disabled, when the second train came alongside and ripped off the car door as it was pulling south. The car was then pinned between the two trains.

The crossing is a plain crossbuck, no arms or lights.

Amazingly no one was injured requiring a trip to the hospital.

S&S Towing were summoned to remove the passenger car from between the trains. CPKC completed inspection of the first train that pulled north enough to clear the car and debris.

CPKC investigators and inspectors are on the scene to take a close look at the tracks and both trains.

Missouri State Highway Patrol are investigating. Initially they believe one person, a male driver, was in the car. The were performing field sobriety after the initial interview.

County Road 300 and Mo-171 is not marked with lights. It is a plain crossbuck.

There was a fatal crash at this rail crossing in 2018. The memorial cross is just feet away beside the track.
