Auburn-area athletes qualify for Sac-Joaquin Section Masters
The high school track and field season is down to the final few meets and this weekend, the best of the best the Sac-Joaquin Section has to offer will compete at the Masters championship at Davis High School. The trails are Friday with the finals Saturday. The top competitors will advance to the CIF State Championships in Clovis on May 24-25.

Oakmont to send nine athletes to masters
Nine Oakmont track and field athletes have qualified for the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Track and Field championships. No one was more impressive than Oakmont sophomore Devyn Chambers, who not only qualified by winning the Division III triple jump, but also the long jump. Her distance in the triple jump was 37 feet, 7 ¾ inches, almost a foot longer than the second-place finisher. Two days later, Chambers won the long jump with a leap of 17-7 ¼.

Vista track and field claims Division III section title
Vista del Lago’s boys’ track and field team had a great performance at the Division III section championship meet last Thursday. Trailing Ponderosa by eight points with one event to go, the Eagles’ 4x400-meter relay team placed first in the event, winning the Eagles the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championship, the team’s first since 2016.

Sac State guard overcomes challenges of Ramadan on the big stage
During Ramadan, fasting can pose mental and physical challenges for anyone, especially for athletes, such as Sacramento State basketball junior guard Zee Hamoda. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar and the holy month of fasting. A Muslim must fast from sunrise until sunset, each day for up to 30 days. This year Ramadan lasted from Sunday, March 10 to Tuesday, April 9.
Folsom 4x4 with top time in section
Folsom High is celebrating their Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Track and Field qualifiers. Several Folsom High athletes had exceptional Division I section meets, starting with the 4x400-meter-relay team, who not only won the section championship, but also set a Folsom High School record of 3 minutes, 20.64 seconds, breaking the old team record from 2000.
