GMFS Salvation Army of Jasper & Newton Counties!
Nathan Hicks, Volunteer Coordinator at The Salvation Army of Jasper and Newton Counties came on the show to talk about how you can help give and serve the community with Salvation Army, which include the End of School Year Bash at KDK Airsoft on Thursday, May 23rd from 4pm to 8pm! Everyone is welcome, but please make sure that parents visit KDK’s website to pre-register their children and sign the waiver which will allow them to play in all the fun activities. Dinner and snacks will be provided, all you need to do is bring a non-perishable food item to help contribute to their food pantries! Lastly, Nathan shares with us how they help serve the community during severe weather season, like their free community storm shelter at the Joplin office!

Lawrence and Barry County Democrats will meet on May 23 at the Angus Branch Steakhouse, located at 114 Chapel Drive in Monett. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. Those wishing to eat should arrive by 5:305:45 p.m., with each responsible for their own meal expense. Guest speakers will include two area candidates for State Representative: Jeremy Dean from the 132nd in Springfield, and Rebecca Jensen, from the 160th District in Newton County. The group also hopes to have Yma Sautbine from the 158th District in Barry County. There will be reports from the group’s two scholarship award presentations, and discussion on fundraising events for Missi Hesketh in the U.S. 7th District Congressional race. Lady Pirates softball wins district title, heads to Liberal
The Ash Grove High School softball team is moving on to the Class 1 state tournament after winning the Class 1, District 5 tournament last week. On Tuesday, May 7, in Purdy, the Lady Pirates knocked off host Purdy, 4-3, to win the Class 1, District 5 tournament and advance to the state round of the tournament.
